Continuing on with the hormone discussion, what ha Continuing on with the hormone discussion, what happens to those beautiful ebbs and flows of the hormone rhythms during perimenopause and menopause?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While some women sail smoothly through the transition, many of us have a much different experience. The beautiful rhythm of our hormones becomes somewhat irratic and in many cases downright chaotic. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you have lived through or are currently living through perimenopause, you know what I'm talking about!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This chaos can show up like changes in cycle length and duration, unexplained weight gain and an inability to lose fat or gain muscle, brain fog and feeling like you are losing your mind, spontaneously breaking out in a sweat, unable to fall or stay asleep, increased anxiety and worry, changes in skin complexion and elasticity, loss of libido and truly feeling like you don't recognize the body you are living in.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If this is you, please know that you are NOT crazy. Your hormones are taking you on a roller coaster ride. And like any roller coaster ride, when you aren't ready for the twists, turns and drops, it's not much fun. But....if you know what's coming, you can settle in, throw up your hands and learn to enjoy the ride.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Having gone through this myself, I am committed to teaching women about how their hormones and body work, the lifestyle changes that make the biggest impact and the options available for them to enjoy a much smoother transition. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
After all it's a transition, not the end. And after the transition, a whole new chapter begins! With the right information, tools, strategies and support, the next chapter can be your healthiest and happiest yet!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

LUTEAL / WANING MOON ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- Post 5 in my cycle syncing series. Go back in my IG posts to learn more.-⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Physical and emotional energy begins to wane mirroring the moon as it moves toward darkness once again. We feel more tired and less motivated. This is often when premenstrual symptoms (PMS) start to show up as hormones shift once again.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Unfortunately, our fast-paced, modern-day society that encourages us to “do more”, “push through it”, “keep up” is not aligned with the natural aspects of our menstrual cycle. During this phase, we should be winding down, finishing up our tasks rather than taking on more. Checking things off the to do list instead of adding more items to it.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Switching our focus to turn back inward, we become more intuitive about what we need to be doing in this phase. Focusing on being more creative and adaptable is important, as trying to tackle detail oriented and very rational tasks can sometimes feel overwhelming, or like we just can’t get it done. And then we feel worse.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This “go, go, go” mentality only facilitates further imbalance in our hormones. When we don’t slow down, we end up complaining about our annoying and distressing PMS symptoms – bloating, headaches, moodiness, fatigue, acne, etc.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As we learn to live more in sync with the distinct phases of our cycle and tune into the phases of the moon for guidance, we will become more empowered by our cycle. It is possible (and it is your right) to live with more energy, vitality and peace. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Self Care Tips⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
~Take time out for yourself! Do things that nourish your soul and lift your spirit.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
~Take an Epsom Salt bath. It's relaxing and the magnesium is helpful in helping balance hormones at this phase.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
~Get outside for fresh air with a daily walk.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
~Incorporate restorative yoga, meditation and even a nap, to help restore your energy.
Our bodies are finely tuned to various rhythms thr Our bodies are finely tuned to various rhythms throughout each day, month, season and year. When these rhythms are disrupted, we feel "off" and out of sync?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You've probably heard of circadian rhythms; physical, mental, and behavioral changes that follow a daily cycle in response to light and darkness.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Cortisol is released as the sun rises in the morning to wake you up and have energy to take on the day. Cortisol levels rise sharply in the morning, then fall throughout the afternoon, reaching their lowest point around sunset. This allows melatonin, and other repair hormones, to rise in order to calm the body so you can sleep, rest and repair during the night.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Modern day living and our constant "on the go" lifestyles have caused major disruptions in our sleep/wake circadian rhythms leaving you tired in the morning, no energy through the day, unable to sleep at night, chronic aches / pains / illness? It's true. Theses are all directly linked to cortisol dysregulation. More on this later!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As women, we have another monthly rhythm. It's an infradian rhythm, meaning longer than a 24 hour/circadian rhythm, and it's also known as the menstrual cycle.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
During the menstrual cycle, hormones such as LH, FSH, estrogen and progesterone rise and fall in a perfectly orchestrated symphony. These varying ebbs and flows, surges and dips, all have a direct affect on our mood, energy, confidence, ability to handle stress, exercise capacity, resilience, motivation, desire for social connection or quiet time.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
YES - our menstrual cycle has a direct affect on every part of our physical, mental and emotional state. By understanindg our menstrual cycle, we can take advantage of these hormonal ebbs and flows to have energy, confidence, time for yourself, getting more done, feeling less stress and overwhelm, enjoying work, family, friends and better health!⠀
